It would be very convenient for me to choose font sizes directly. There's no information on adjusting font sizes and types in any of the tutorials or in the user manual. I get a default Maestro font size of 20.5 points when I look at the pdfs produced from the musx files in Illustrator. Problem is, I don't know where, or in what menu, the default font sizes or font types of Maestro for that matter can be selected, as well as line thickness.
I basically re-use these files to produce new notation examples, and avoid using SetUp Wizard or the templates. At the beginning, I somehow managed to produce notation at 17.04 points from scans of tiff files that the author had sent me, and when the page widths of these files are squeezed down to 5 inches the notation looks pretty good. Thing is, I can't use the apparent default font size of 20.5 points (which comes with using templates supplied with Finale) because once the notation is squeezed into 5 inches, everything looks too compressed because notehead sizes don't become smaller to accommodate the reduced width of the measures. These are fairly simple files, not elaborate orchestral notation. Using SetUp Wizard, the default font size for piano and voice appears to be 20.5 points.Īn important criteria of the page layout in InDesign is that all music examples that are imported into InDesign can't be wider than 5 inches, so I reduce the page size in Finale to 5 inches or thereabout s.
I even had Maestro Percussion font show up in one file: how that got there I have no idea. Illustrator shows me a font size of either 20.5 or 17.04 points for notes, clefs, and time signatures, but I have no idea why these particular font sizes of Maestro are used. The fixed Illustrator file is then imported into InDesign 6.0 and inserted into the document. The musx notation is converted to a pdf, which I then import into Illustrator because adjustments and minor fixes are always required to the music notation files. After a few fits and bumps, I've been able to produce music notation that looks very nice. Music notation examples are included in the book, so I chose Finale to produce them. I'm working with an author to produce a music theory and history book which will be printed. I've been using Finale PrintMusic for only a short time, so I'm not that familiar with it.
